In a surprising mid-July announcement, Apple has updated the HomePod mini with a new color option. Instead of new features or hardware upgrades, the change is purely cosmetic.
You can now order the HomePod mini in a new Midnight color, which replaces the previous Space Gray option. The color joins the existing lineup of white, blue, yellow, and orange.

The difference between Space Gray and Midnight is subtle, with Midnight having a slightly bluer tint. To most people, both colors will still look black.
This change aligns the HomePod mini with the larger second-generation HomePod, which is also available in Midnight and White.
The HomePod mini was first launched in November 2020, and users have been eagerly awaiting a new version. However, this color update suggests that a new hardware model might not be coming soon.
The HomePod mini in Midnight is available for order today on the Apple website. Deliveries will start on July 17. It remains priced at $99 and is otherwise identical to previous versions.
